Applaud Cancellation of Cruel Pig and Rooster Chase

Target: Galen Kulp, President of the Pennsylvania Ephrata Fair

Goal: Thank fair for no longer organizing a pig and rooster chasing event.

Pennsylvania’s largest street fair has held pig and rooster chasing events for the past 39 years, but thankfully the fair will not be participating in this cruel and unnecessary event this year.

In past years, children and adults would chase and grab frightened pigs and roosters while the crowd chants and screams. The ordeal is terrifying and can cause injury to the animals and humans.

Sign this petition and thank the fair for canceling the event this year and encourage them to cancel this event permanently. Pigs and roosters are curious, intelligent, and social creatures that deserve to be treated with respect.

Dear Mr. Kulp,

Recently you announced that at this year’s Ephrata Fair, the pig and rooster chasing event would not be held. I was ecstatic to hear this news.

Pigs and roosters are smart, curious and social creatures that have unique personalities. During chasing events, these terrified animals are forced to endure a screaming, hectic crowd while humans chase and grab onto them. It is a terrible experience, and I am very happy these animals are being spared from this unnecessary cruelness this year.

Thank you for deciding to not organize an animal chase this year. I strongly encourage you to cancel this event for good. These animals deserve to be shown the same respect every year.

  1. Thank you!! A step forward! Pennsylvania has animal welfare issues, the well known events in Lancaster, the next to nothing monetary finds for beating animals to death. I hope Pennsylvania will change their animal welfare laws, it IS TIME.

  2. Thank you for standing up for pigs and roosters and canceling the “chase” that was scheduled for the Ephrata Fair. This was a cruel event which was terrifying and inhumane for the animals involved. It also taught children and their families that animals do not need to be protected. Your actions indicate a step forward in improving the animal welfare laws in Pennsylvania. Thank you.

  3. Thank you for doing the right thing and not abusing animals. My respect for you for making this correct and humane decision is immense. Thank you again! 🙂

  5. thank you !!
