Target: Pam Bondi, Florida Attorney General
Goal: Demand the maximum punishment for the arsonist who set a mosque on fire during a Muslim holiday.
A Florida mosque sustained heavy damage after it was set on fire. The fire occurred on the starting date of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, which also happened to fall on the 15th anniversary of 9/11. Demand justice for this alleged hate crime.
A surveillance video showed a man on a motorcycle approaching the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce. He carried a bottle of liquid and some papers. A flash occurred and the man shook his head just before leaving. The Florida mosque had reportedly been receiving threats since the shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, when one of its members was identified as the gunman.
Luckily, no one was injured in the fire. The FBI and the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office are investigating, but a suspect has yet to be identified. Sign below to demand the maximum penalty in this case.
Dear Attorney General Bondi,
The Islamic Center of Fort Pierce sustained serious damage after it was set on fire. The sheriff’s department is investigating the attack as arson, but the Council on American-Islamic Relations in Florida believes that this was a hate crime. We demand that you seek the maximum penalty in this case.
This is not the first report of violence at the Islamic Center of Fort Pierce. It began with threatening voicemails following the shooting at Orlando’s Pulse nightclub. This soon progressed to harassment when drivers threw water on parishioners. Finally, a member was beat up in the parking lot when he arrived for private prayer.
This violence cannot be allowed to continue. Take a stand against hate crimes and seek the maximum penalty in this case.
