Target: Ohio Governor John Kasich
Goal: Don’t imprison women who receive abortions.
Abortion may become completely illegal in Ohio if a new proposal becomes law. Under the new measure, any woman undergoing such a procedure would be charged with aggravated murder.
This draconian constitutional amendment was submitted for approval to Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine’s office. The proposal classifies an “unborn human” as being “an individual organism … from fertilization, whether fertilization occurs inside our outside of a human, until live birth.” Violators would be charged with aggravated murder, which is punishable by a sentence ranging from 15 years to life in prison.
Such an outdated and backwards law would be nothing short of an unfair punishment for women. If passed, women and the doctors who help them would be punished for any abortion, even in cases of rape or when the mother’s life is endangered. The measure’s wording also prohibits prescription birth control, IUDs, and emergency contraception.
This new measure represents a serious threat to the health of countless women. Demand that this misogynistic proposal be struck down immediately.
Dear Mr. Kasich,
I am writing to call your attention to an extremely troubling new measure that has been proposed for the upcoming election cycle. This new proposal attempts to classify abortion as aggravated murder, and would imprison anyone undergoing such a procedure. The draconian proposal makes no exceptions for cases involving rape and also seeks to outlaw prescription birth control, IUDs, and other forms of contraception.
Proponents of this bill are willing to risk the health of countless women simply because their beliefs do not tolerate abortion. While every individual is entitled to his or her opinion, beliefs that endanger others should not be allowed. I urge you to immediately intervene and strike down this measure before it becomes law.
