Target: Jerry Brown, Governor of California
Goal: Finalize the ban on breeding and export of captive orcas.
Recently, California’s senate passed a bill that would ban the breeding of captive orcas, as well as the export of captive orcas out of North America. In order to make this bill a reality, California Governor Jerry Brown needs to approve and sign the bill.
Orcas are incredibly smart, curious and social creatures. In the wild, orcas can swim up to 100 miles a day, form relationships and even pick their own mates. In captivity, typically trainers will masturbate male orcas, collect their sperm, and then artificially inseminate female orcas at young ages.
Sign this petition and urge Governor Brown to pass this bill and ban the breeding of captive orcas. This would spare future generations of orcas from unnecessary mental and physical pain.
Dear Governor Brown,
A bill will soon be landing on your desk that with your approval would ban the breeding of captive orcas and ban the export of captive orcas out of North America. This bill would spare future generations of orcas from terrible mental and physical stress.
Orcas are incredibly smart and social creatures. In the wild, these animals can swim up to 100 miles a day, work with others to collect food, form intricate relationships and even choose their own mate. In captivity, it is common for trainers to masturbate the male orcas, collect their sperm and then artificially inseminate the females. The process is unnatural and disturbing.
Please consider signing and passing this monumental bill for orcas. You have shown your compassion for animals by recently banning the cruel elephant training tool, the bullhook. Please know that orcas feel pain and misery just like elephants, but with our help, they can also experience joy and happiness.
