Poodle Scalded to Death Deserves Justice

Genevieve-by-mor.nitesh

Target: Stephen M. Wagstaffe, District Attorney for San Mateo County, CA

Goal: Seek the most severe punishment possible for owners who allegedly scalded a dog to death.

A dog reportedly died after the owners scalded the animal and didn’t seek treatment for an entire week after the incident. The poor dog, a 2-year-old poodle Maltese mix named Sprocket, had third-degree burns that covered 40 percent of his body, according to investigators. The president of the Peninsula Humane Society has said that poor Sprocket “endured days of horrendous suffering.”

The owners, Shelby Lujan and her boyfriend Paul Souter, were charged with animal abuse, but one of them has been allowed to post bail.

How does an animal get third-degree burns that cover almost half of its body? The owners claim that they accidentally spilled boiling water into his crate. An expert forensic veterinarian, however, says that the injuries appear to have been intentional and were consistent with the dog being lowered into or placed into the scalding liquid.

It seems clear that the owners may have severely mistreated and abused poor Sprocket. No animal deserves to be left to suffer such awful injuries and there’s no excuse for this. Had the owners at least bothered to seek treatment, perhaps Sprocket could’ve avoided suffering and dying as a result of their carelessness. Please add your signature to the petition below to bring Sprocket justice by urging authorities to seek the most severe penalty possible against the owners.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Wagstaffe,

A poor poodle named Sprocket reportedly died after 40 percent of his body was covered in third-degree burns. The owners, according to investigators, didn’t bother seeking treatment for Sprocket until an entire week had passed, and it was too late.

This innocent animal may have experienced unspeakable abuse at the hands of the owners. Had they at least bothered to seek treatment, Sprocket could have avoided suffering to death. We urge you to make sure that justice is served and that the owners are given the maximum sentence and banned from ever owning animals again if they are found guilty for this horrendous crime.

Sincerely,

Its time we start making the useless scum suffer the same fate their victims do weather they are human or animals.

  5. While I can truly empathize with the emotion surrounding this case as a dog owner myself, I must point out that this case DOES NOT fall in the jurisdiction of the San Mateo police department and in fact occurred in an entirely different city. I invite the author of this petition to contact me directly. SMPD Sgt Rick Decker, Media Relations, 650-522-7626.

Dear Sgt Decker, thank you for your comment. It appears there was an error regarding the jurisdiction where this event took place in our original petition, and we have now corrected it. I have also passed your comment along to the petition author. I really appreciate your taking the time to clear this up and get in touch with us.
      Sincerely,
      Nick (ForceChange Team Member)
