Target: Tom Wolf, Governor of Pennsylvania
Goal: Ban the practice of fracking natural gas after a Johns Hopkins study linked major health problems to fracking.
A new study conducted by Johns Hopkins University confirmed something many of us already knew: fracking is bad for your health. The university did a study on residents of Pennsylvania who lived near fracked gas sites and found that those who live near fracking sites were twice as likely to suffer from migraines, fatigue, sinus issues, and asthma attacks. This is surely not something that just residents of Pennsylvania suffer from, but considering the results of the new study Pennsylvanians should be seriously concerned. It’s time to demand that Pennsylvania ban the practice of fracking natural gas in order to protect the health of its citizens and environment.
This study done by Johns Hopkins is not the first one they’ve conducted on the health impacts of living near fracked gas — last year they published a study that concluded that if you lived near fracked gas and you were pregnant you had a much higher chance of having a premature birth. Not only are the people living near fracked gas seriously affected by the practice, but the environment around the sites is severely damaged as well. Many communities living near fracked gas sites have reported a poisoned water supply, flammable tap water, and a myriad of other environmental consequences as a result of fracking natural gas.
Dear Governor Wolf,
Johns Hopkins University recently conducted a study in your home state that found the residents who live near fracked gas sites are twice as likely to suffer serious health problems due to exposure to natural gas. Migraines, asthma attacks, premature births, and serious fatigue are just some of the symptoms that are common in people who live near fracked gas sites. No person should have to suffer from any of these symptoms just because they happen to live where they do.
As it stands right now, you might be the best option to save the residents of Pennsylvania from experiencing any more health problems as a result of fracking. In order to spare your citizens from any more health problems from living in their own homes, you need to outright ban fracking in the state of Pennsylvania immediately. Banning fracking in your state will send a clear message to the oil industry that the state of Pennsylvania does not tolerate the poisoning of its land or citizens. It’s time to ban fracking in Pennsylvania immediately, before any more people suffer.
