Open Wounds and Feces Filled Cages is No Way for Animals to Live

Target: Joseph Stanzione, Greene County District Attorney

Goal: Shut down zoo where wounded animals reportedly live in cramped and feces-filled cages, and send them to accredited sanctuaries.

Animals suffering from open wounds and confined to cramped cages deserve to be released to a suitable sanctuary. The animal residents of the Bailiwick Ranch and Animal Park, a zoo in Catskill, New York, are suffering physically and mentally from reportedly being kept in cramped cages and deteriorating enclosures and being given improper veterinary care. Reporters from Times Union found animals with open wounds in rusty and feces-filled enclosures.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has already penalized this zoo twice for animal welfare violations, but this is not enough. In July, the USDA fined Bailiwick $1,350 for failures “to maintain housing facilities in good repair to protect the animals from injury.” Yet, conditions have reportedly not changed and it seems as though no efforts are being made by management to ensure the animals’ safety. This facility must therefore be shut down to stop these innocent animals’ suffering.

Sign this petition urging local officials to take measures to protect animals by shutting this zoo and sending its animal residents to accredited sanctuaries where they may recover from this poor treatment.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Stanzione,

Animals are reportedly suffering from open wounds and being kept in flimsy, cramped and feces-filled cages at the Bailiwick Ranch and Animal Park in Catskill. Times Union reporters and locals have revealed the lack of care given to this zoo’s animals, and the filthy conditions they are being subjected to. The USDA recently fined this zoo and has penalized it once again for animal welfare violations. Clearly this is not enough and conditions are not getting any better for animals trapped in this facility.

Please do everything in your power to ensure this zoo is immediately shut down and its resident animals sent to accredited sanctuaries where they can begin to recover and receive the care and conditions they deserve.

Sincerely,

  1. When penalties don’t work, my guess is you do something else and you do it sooner than later. Find suitable forever homes for these innocent animals.

  2. Another case of the USDA collecting fines of the suffering of innocent animals! But that is all they will do!! Never seen them take steps to remove or protect animals NOT once! Let’s stop wasting tax payer money on ineffectual jokes
Ike the USDA. That money should be given to an agency that will use those hundreds of thousands of dollars doing something besides paying big sale rise for their employees to watch animals suffering and decide how much they will be paid for it??? Tired of the ridiculous waste of ,y hard earned dollars! What is the USDA s charter??! They seem to just WATCH abuse for cash!!!

As animal caretakers, it is our responsibility to speak out loud for all & every innocent animal victim around the world; shame, on all those monsters victimizing these poor innocent animals; worse yet, shame on those who have the power to change the laws, but choose not to get involved.

  4. The USDA spent 17.8 MILLION on a program to encourage farmers and ranchers!! @USDA_NIFA awards $17.8 mil to cultivate the next generation of farmers and ranchers http://bit.ly/2bHKJDp
Do you really think this is an agency that would spend a few thousand to save suffering creatures?? NO! Fining these future farmers and ranchers and zoos and roadside atrocities is how they made 17.8 MILLION! Wake up this us our money, every taxpayer is giving money for these clowns to fine people and then encourage other offenders?!
