Target: Laura Murek, Event and Sponsorship Coordinator for Montgomery County Agricultural Fair in Maryland
Goal: Cancel cruel shark show at agricultural fair.
Haai Shark Encounter is a traveling shark show that goes to various fairs and events throughout the nation. These sharks are denied everything natural to them and are forced to endure large crowds and loud noises on a regular basis.
Haai Shark Encounter uses nurse sharks. Nurse sharks have never been involved in a fatal attack and typically shy away from humans. During this show, the sharks are forced to come close to humans and endure banging on the tank from the crowd. The event is chaotic, and the sharks have no choice but to withstand the disarray.
Unfortunately sharks are not protected under the Animal Welfare Act, which means they need our help even more. Sign this petition and demand that the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair cancel its plans with Haai Shark Encounter.
Dear Ms. Murek,
The Montgomery County Agricultural Fair is planning on hosting the traveling shark show, Haai Shark Encounter. Haai Shark Encounter travels the nation forcing nurse sharks into small tanks and chaotic situations.
Nurse sharks are known for being timid animals that try to avoid human interactions. In fact, nurse sharks have never been involved in a deadly attack. However, Haai Shark Encounter plays up the ignorant stereotype of all sharks being extremely dangerous and even opens the event with the ‘Jaws’ theme song.
During the show, the audience is encouraged to bang on the tank where the timid nurse sharks live. The event is loud, crowded and chaotic, and there is no way to escape this stressful situation for the sharks.
Please consider canceling your plans with Haai Shark Encounter. These animals should be out swimming in the open water, not forced to put on shows for humans.
