Target: Joel Manby, CEO of SeaWorld
Goal: End all of SeaWorld’s breeding programs.
Back in March, SeaWorld announced the groundbreaking news that it would no longer breed orcas. The announcement was great news, however SeaWorld unfortunately continues to breed beluga whales and dolphins.
Beluga whales and dolphins are highly intelligent animals who suffer physically and mentally in captivity, just like orcas. Lifespans are shortened and the animals quickly become bored in their small tanks. Several former employees stated that many of the belugas are given Valium in order to control the aggression caused by the stresses of living in captivity. In 2015, two belugas died in San Antonio at the tender ages of two years and three weeks.
Many aquariums have already ended their whale and dolphin breeding programs because of ethical and moral questions raised. Sign this petition to demand SeaWorld stop breeding all whales and dolphins.
Dear Mr. Manby,
SeaWorld recently made the groundbreaking decision to end its orca breeding program. While this is great news, I was saddened to hear that you continue to breed beluga whales and dolphins.
Beluga whales and dolphins are highly intelligent and social animals, just like orcas. They too suffer physically and mentally when living in captivity. Recently, two belugas died in San Antonio at the ripe young ages of two yeasr and three weeks. These animals’ lifespans are drastically shortened when living in captivity and they become incredibly bored in their confinements which leads to aggression.
Please consider ending your beluga whale and dolphin breeding programs for the same reasons you ended the orca breeding program. These animals are highly social and intelligent creatures who belong in the wild where they can truly thrive.
