Applaud Apple for Offering Equal Pay to All Workers

Target: Tim Cook, Apple CEO

Goal: Congratulate Apple for offering equal pay to all of its workers, regardless of gender or race.

The pay gap in the United States between men and women has been a hotly discussed issue in recent years. Some reports state that the average woman makes 77 cents for every dollar a man makes for doing the same job. Apple decided to do something about that recently, announcing that employees in similar positions will all make the same amount. The company also passed this rule for minority workers too, as people of color in this country are known to make significantly less than their white counterparts. Congratulate Apple on its progressive step forward in the fight for achieving equal pay for all workers.

When asked about this issue last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook said it was a very fixable issue and that Apple was hard at work for making that a reality for all Apple employees around the globe. Recent announcements suggest that not only did the company secure equal pay for employees regardless of gender or race, it is actively trying to hire a more diverse workforce. Cook said that he was hoping to hire more women at Apple to make up for the male-dominated workforce that is the tech world. As of this year, women are 37 percent of the new hires, up from last year’s 31 percent. It’s a small jump, but Apple is actively working on increasing those numbers every day.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Tim Cook,

Thank you for putting pay equity and diversity in the workforce at the top of Apple’s priority list. Yours is one of the first major corporations, if not the biggest, to announce equal pay for all workers doing similar jobs. This sort of news sets a precedent for other Fortune 500 companies to follow.

Being the global powerhouse that Apple is, this news deserves a serious pat on the back, not only because it gives incentive for other major corporations to follow suit. Thank you for taking the necessary first steps in the fight for equal pay and please continue to be a leader in progressive movements such as this one.

Sincerely,
