Target: Matt Fogel, District Attorney for Franklin County, Pennsylvania
Goal: Punish pair accused of locking four dogs in a filthy basement to starve.
Three dogs are dead and one more facing serious illness after allegedly being starved to death by their owners. The dogs were found locked in the basement of a residence, forced to live on a floor pooled with feces and urine. The German Shepherds, named Bear, Beard, Deffenburg and Rosie, were also left with no food or water.
When officers entered the basement, they found two of the dogs already dead. Two dogs, Beard and Bear, were left alive, though Beard was in such terrible condition he had to be euthanized to end his suffering. Bear, the only dog left alive, weighed in at half the weight a healthy dog of his breed and age should be.
Court documents allege that the dogs were “deprived of necessary sustenance and drink, causing them to be tortured, disfigured and to die.” The animals died a torturous, drawn-out death due to this extreme negligence, and the dog left alive has a long road to recovery ahead of him. It is even possible that Bear will deal with the results of this ordeal for the rest of his life.
Each person living in the home has been charged with four counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. In order to ensure that no more dogs are killed at their hands, they must be banned from owning pets in the future. Sign the petition below to demand that the people responsible for this shocking crime are punished to the fullest extent of the law.
Dear Mr. Fogel,
Two people are facing animal cruelty charges after allegedly locking four dogs into a basement without any food or water. When the dogs were found, the basement was covered in urine and feces and two of the dogs were already dead. Of the two left alive, one was in such poor condition that he had to be humanely euthanized, while another was only half the weight he should have been.
This prolonged suffering led to the death of three dogs, and may result in lifelong complications for the one left alive. In order to ensure that no more animals are harmed, these owners must be banned from owning animals. We, the undersigned, ask you to seek the maximum punishment for the accused.
