Target: New Jersey Senator Robert Menendéz
Goal: Demand more medical insurance companies cover the cost of alternative and holistic medicine.
These days, more people are turning to alternative and holistic medicine to treat their ills and improve their bodies’ functions. Unfortunately, most medical insurance companies refuse to cover these forms of medicine for one reason or another. Alternative medicine used to be seen as “quackery, nonsense” by traditionalists, but even as times have changed and people have become more accepting of alternative medicine, it is still seen as a superfluous luxury compared to traditional doctors and hospitals.
For some people, alternative and holistic medicine is more effective than western remedies; therefore, their herbalists or holistic practitioners take priority over most of their western doctors. While there is no replacement for a primary care physician, some holistic practitioners come very close to filling such a role. Holistic medicine does more than simply fix the body’s ills, it takes a more intimate look at every part of the human physiology and can permanently fix problems western medicines can only temporarily treat. Some people’s bodies even respond better to alternative medicines than to traditional practices and treatments. For these reasons, holistic medicine is more than just a luxury on the side.
Medical insurance companies need to recognize this and start treating alternative medicine like it matters. It is just as real and just as helpful as a traditional doctor, and people should not have to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket because they chose alternative treatments over traditional means. Sign this petition to demand insurance companies give fair coverage to alternative medical practitioners.
Dear Senator Menendéz,
Many people are turning to alternative medicine these days, but most medical insurance policies refuse to give practitioners of these medicines proper coverage. This results in patients paying hundreds of dollars out of pocket, which is highly unbalanced compared to the amount of coverage traditional medicine receives. This is especially unfair to people whose herbalists and other holistic practitioners are as vital to them as their primary care physicians.
Alternative medicine is recognized as a legitimate form of treatment, so it’s time for insurance companies to start treating it as such. Please start pushing for medical insurance companies to give better coverage to alternative practitioners and herbalists, so that their patients no longer have to pay hundreds of dollars for their well-being.
