Target: Katie Jarl, Texas State Director of the Humane Society of the United States
Goal: Rescue animals reportedly kept in horrid conditions by flea market vendors and arrest anyone found to be abusing these animals.
Dogs and other animals are allegedly kept in filthy, rusty cages with no food or water at a major flea market. All mistreated animals need to be rescued and anyone responsible for keeping these creatures in such conditions should be immediately brought up on animal cruelty charges.
The animals are sold at the First Monday Trade Days event in Canton, Texas. Visitors have reported seeing many dogs piled into small cages and another dog unable to move because it was stuck inside a cage where the flooring was full of large holes made from wiring. Because the crate apparently also does not have a door, the dog is reportedly pulled out through the top of the cage’s rusty metal wires whenever it is shown to customers. Many of the dogs sold here have reportedly contracted canine parvovirus, a contagious condition that affects dogs kept in unsanitary conditions. Birds are also allegedly shoved inside cages together. Sadly, one chicken was said to be eaten alive by other chickens since it was unable to escape its surroundings.
Demand police investigate all vendors who sell animals at this event and ensure that anyone not providing the animals with adequate care be immediately brought up on criminal charges. Animals do not deserve to be abused by greedy people who care about nothing more than making a quick buck.
Dear Director Jarl,
It has been reported that vendors keep their animals in filthy conditions at the First Monday Trade Days event in Canton, Texas. Any such animals must be rescued, and anyone found to be keeping them in unsanitary conditions needs to be immediately charged with animal abuse.
Patrons have reported seeing everything from dogs being crammed inside cages together to animals being kept in rusty crates with no flooring. Unfortunately, one dog kept in such a cage is apparently pulled out through the top and scraped against metal wires before being shown to potential customers. Dogs also allegedly are not provided with food and water, while birds such as turkeys and chickens are apparently thrown inside crates together. Unfortunately, one chicken was said to be pecked to death by others because the crate was so full that it was unable to move.
Keeping animals in such conditions is nothing short of animal abuse and anyone found to be doing so needs to be brought up on criminal charges. I therefore urge you to investigate these allegations and to ensure anyone thought to be abusing these animals is arrested. This type of barbaric cruelty only ensures that many innocent animals will die.
