Prestigious University Must Stop Gruesome Animal Tests

Imperial-by-geograph

Target: Jo Johnson, UK Minister for Universities and Science

Goal: Immediately ban university found engaging in cruel and needless animal experimentation from carrying out any more animal tests.

A prestigious university has reportedly been seriously mistreating animals on several counts, from failing to provide proper care for them to making no effort to reduce numbers of animals experimented on. New statistics released by the United Kingdom’s Home Office reveal that Imperial College London has done little to improve the conditions of the animals in its care since an audit in 2014 found a “widespread poor culture of care.”

Aside from being subjected to painful and distressing tests, the mice, rats, fish, monkeys, dogs, cats and even horses used by the university in scientific testing are reportedly not receiving adequate care. Moreover, numbers of live animals used in testing have remained virtually the same year on year since 2013, showing that the university has made no effort to abide by the government’s stated intention of reducing the quantity of animals forced to suffer through gruesome tests. The percentage of animals involved in “severe” experimentation, classified as causing a “major departure from the animal’s usual state of health and well-being,” has also not significantly been reduced, meaning that Imperial is not committed to reducing animal suffering.

Sign this petition urging the government to revoke Imperial College London’s license to experiment on animals, as it has proven itself to take the suffering of sentient beings far too lightly.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Johson,

A new report from the Home Office reveals that animal testing is still far too prevalent countrywide, despite new humane and more accurate research methods being widely available. One university in particular, Imperial College London, has seemingly made no effort to reduce the quantity of animals it experiments on, with statistics showing that number of animals used in tests has stayed similar for over three years.

Moreover, the institution continues to subject these animals to “severe” tests and reportedly does not give them an adequate care. Therefore, this university must immediately be stripped of its license to experiment on animals, seeing as it is seemingly not apt to properly care for these sentient creatures.

Please also ensure the government’s stated intent of reducing the number of animals used in scientific testing is followed through, as 4 million tests carried out on live animals per year is far too many. Universities and other laboratories must all be urgently encouraged to replace animal testing with more efficient and cruelty-free alternatives.

Sincerely,

  1. BE GOOD TO ANIMALS END THE CRUEL TESTING ON THEM NOW.

  2. Rosemary Anderson says:

This is an obscenity. What happened to us being a nation of animal lovers. The backward, primitive morons that has authorised this vile disgrace should have the experiments done on them. Anyone involved in this kind of thing is sub human and should do what they are good at crawling on their bellies like the lower forms of life they really are. Stop these disgusting acts now.

  3. Peter Bond says:

Doctor have known for years now that animal testing is useless and does not provide credible medical information. the problem is a large number of institution depend on this tax payer money, yes our tax dollars to keep peop,e and doctors employed torturing and Violating the hypocratic oath. The time and effort to STOP what all doctors know is a money making scam will be very hard as dollars flow to these doctors from our pockets. Tax dollars at work!!!

  4. Having worked for almost 5o years as a nurse in almost all the London hospitals, I am fully aware of the repugnance felt by more and more nurses AND doctors, where the ‘so-called ‘science’ behind animal testing lies and lies and does not bother to even keep records of the number of animals killed or how, as a rule, rather than as an exception. I know several doctors who have resigned from medicine, sickened by the means in which those who long for their names in The Lancet, push their sadistic ideas forward for further and further funding – and that’s what in it – not for us – we are just the pawns in their vicious games. They are in it for the money. For the grants. For the funding. Sick.

      Thanks Rosie,
I’ve witnessed it first hand in Australia as well, and it still goes on. Another ‘case’ was brought to light very recently and is being dealt with swiftly thank goodness.
So it isn’t just the UK and USA, sadly.

  5. Prudence Brooks says:

IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT THE ANIMAL MODEL FOR RESEARCH REMAINS USELESS FOR HUMAN EQUIVALENCE. UNLESS CHIMERIC MODELS ARE USED, AND THEY CAN BE EXPENSIVE, ALL OF THIS IS VERY ALIEN TO INSTITUTIONS THAT GRANT A HUMANISTIC APPROACH TO THEIR CURRICULA.

  6. Celeste H. says:

Wow, I thought the UK was a little further evolved than the US when it comes to animal testing — I did know that there are
still large beagle testing labs in the UK, but not all of this
extreme madman research that used to happen at Oxford… Another reason this shocks me is that the UK has Reverend Andrew Linzey (a modern Oxford professor) who is actually referred to as an animal theologian, and has written several very insightful books on the subject of animal cruelty (I just finished reading “Why Animal Suffering Matters” by Linzey, and it truly shows the whole picture of why animal cruelty still
happens in big industry) — but I also love that Linzey speaks not only as a theologian, but brings it all into every-
day consciousness, advocating that animal cruelty needs to be
taken just as seriously as cruelty to human children…. So
I’m just more surprised that London is not more enlightened
than the US, concerning the cruelty of most animal research…
It’s scary that these universities seem to be above the law,
and can engage in “Nazi-like” experiments and receive no pun-
    ishment for it?

    • Celeste H. says:

I also agree with Rosie above, that big money and grants drive some of this insane research (it still happens in the US, too) — and shouldn’t it trouble us all that so-called ‘intelligent’ people of science are allowed to commit truly sadistic and heartless crimes against animals, with their experiments not even being regulated? It’s like some of these madman researchers are allowed to live in an ivory tower, with a hidden agenda of power and control over unconsenting beings — and to think our world has been concerned about alien intelligence conducting cruel research on human beings? No, the aliens are among us and are sometimes disguised as well-paid researchers… Very chilling, and we should not
      ignore it….

  7. LAST INFANTILE AND GREED SCUM – NOT DESERVES TO LIVE WITHIN CIVILIZED SOCIETIES IN OUR ALL WORLD – ALL OF THESE CRIMINAL RABBLE IS BETTER DEATH! DO NOT DISTURB THE REST OF THE WORLD POPULATION AND FUTURE GENERATIONS WITH YOUR EXISTENCE, BASTARDBIRTH!

Especially now, the so called “scientists “, on England, are even more going to hang on to their position and irreplaceable salaries.

Any excuse will be good not to hold onto their seats = financial advantages

experimentation on animals should not exist anymore
