Justice for Dog Shot Three Times

Pit_Bull_by_Dante_Alighieri

Target: Ken Moore, Wynnewood Chief of Police

Goal: Fire police officer responsible for shooting and killing family dog.

An officer with the Wynnewood, Oklahoma police department allegedly shot and killed a family’s dog while serving a ten-year-old warrant for the arrest of a previous resident. The incident happened during the fifth birthday party of one of the family’s children. According to the police report, the family’s dog lunged at the officer through the fence, making the officer fear for his life. However, images of the scene show the body of the dog inside the fence. Furthermore, the officer reportedly killed the dog with a high powered rifle he retrieved from his vehicle. These facts undermine Wynnewood law enforcement’s accounts of what occurred. The dog was shot three times.

The officer in question reportedly came to the home to serve a ten-year-old warrant to a person who was no longer a resident there. The identity of the current residents were known to the police department, and the house was also known to be a rental property with multiple people moving in and out over the years. In short, there was little to no reason to suspect that the subject of the warrant was still present at the address. The Wynnewood Police Department are refusing to identify the officer involved. However, whoever that officer is, his alleged actions point to an individual who lacks the temperament to be a police officer. For the safety of the community, he should face the consequences of his actions and be fired. Sign our petition and demand justice for the family and their dog.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chief Moore,

I was shocked to hear reports of the killing of a dog by one of your officers while presenting a ten-year-old warrant. The fact that the subject of the warrant no longer lived at the address in question was known to the department, along with the identities of the current occupants. Given these facts, I believe that the Wynnewood Police Department must answer why the officer was at the address in question to serve that warrant.

Furthermore, while the officer initially stated to a resident that the dog lunged at him through the fence, you stated to reporters that the dog attacked the officer while coming around the side of the house. This is refuted by images of the dog’s body near the fence. However, in either scenario the officer allegedly returned to his vehicle and withdrew a high powered rifle to shoot the dog three times, twice in front of children. This behavior is neither appropriate nor reasonable. Furthermore, it speaks to a temperament unsuited to a career in law enforcement. This time the accidental death was of a dog, I urge you to ensure this officer is off the street before there can be a next time.

Sincerely,

Those of us who try to restore respect and safety for our friends and loved ones in law enforcement have now received yet another slap in the face and set back by this incredibly horrid action. Somebody needs to take accountability for this and not hide behind procedure policies. As long as this continues no officer is safe on the streets as even the law abiding citizens may turn away and are no longer helpful or interested. It’s hard to feel empathy towards an entity that has zero respect for people’s rights and their property and pets. You are incompetent idiots.
