Target: Kenny Wright, District Attorney for Delaware and Ottawa Counties
Goal: Demand maximum punishment for chicken breeders accused of neglecting nearly 350 animals to the point that three had to be put down.
Two chicken breeders were recently arrested after a raid on their home revealed nearly 350 animals cramped into a relatively small space. The animals included 300 chickens as well as 37 dogs and nine cats, some of which were in poor condition. Three of the animals found were so sick that they had to be euthanized on the spot by volunteers who set up a temporary vet clinic.
According to rescuers from the Oklahoma Alliance for Animals (OAA), many of the animals were infested with fleas and had bald patches. The animals were kept in what were called deplorable conditions, which included barren wire cages. The surviving animals have been seized and released to the OAA.
The couple, Clare and Chris White, were arrested on 38 counts of felony animal cruelty. Their five children, ages 11-23, were taken into protective custody by the Department of Human Services due to the condition of the home. If convicted, the parents could face up to a year in jail or a $500 fine for each count.
The animals found in the home were visibly unhealthy, suggesting that the owners engaged in willful and deliberate neglect toward them. In order to bring justice to the three animals that were euthanized as well as deter future offenders, the people responsible should be punished to the fullest extent of the law. Ask that the maximum penalty is sought in this disturbing case of animal cruelty.
Dear Mr. Wright,
A raid on a chicken breeder’s home recently uncovered nearly 350 animals kept in deplorable, flea-infested conditions. These animals included chickens, cats, and dogs that were visibly unhealthy and balding in some areas. Three were so sick that they had to be immediately euthanized in order to end their profound suffering.
These animals were taken advantage of for profit. Considering the visible unhealthiness of the animals, this neglect was willful. In order to deter future offenders from such heinous crimes as well as to bring justice to the three dead dogs, it is imperative that the people responsible are punished to the fullest extent of the law. We, the undersigned, ask you to seek the harshest possible penalty in this case.
