Don’t Mine for Uranium in the Grand Canyon

Target: New Jersey Congressman Robert Menendez

Goal: Protect the Grand Canyon from uranium mining.

The Republican party has announced their intention to build uranium mines in the Grand Canyon, one of America’s most iconic landmarks and greatest treasures. Not only is this plan dangerous to the canyon itself, but it is incredibly dangerous to the environment. These mines will emit toxic chemicals into the air and the water supply, harming the local wildlife and the people who visit the Grand Canyon or live near the general area.

The end goal for mining in this area would be to build deadly weapons from uranium while the Earth would be poisoned with nuclear power, which we have been trying to break away from in favor of cleaner energy sources. Monetary gain is never an excuse to desecrate a national landmark or poison the environment.

We cannot allow this. Our environment faces enough threats today without uranium mines adding to the problem, and the Grand Canyon is too important to allow anyone to use it for such sites. The Republican party must be stopped, and their plan must be rejected and forbidden. There is no need for uranium mines at all, especially in a grand and iconic site. Sign this petition to demand that Congress enforce the protection of one of our country’s most important landmarks.

Dear Congressman Menendez,

The Republican party intends to build uranium mines in the Grand Canyon, which will result in nothing beneficial for the canyon or for the environment. These mines and the uranium they produce will contaminate the air and the water supply, causing harm to people and the local wildlife. In addition, we are trying to move away from uranium-based power and weapons in this day and age; nuclear power has been proven too dangerous compared to other forms of energy. The Republicans only seek to make a profit from these mines, and monetary gain is not a valid excuse for desecrating a national landmark or for harming the environment.

The Grand Canyon is too beautiful a place and too valuable a landmark to ruin it with something as potentially dangerous as one uranium mine, let alone multiple mines. Do not allow such harm to come to this planet and its natural beauty. Please protect the Grand Canyon by denying the party permission to build these mines.
