Target: Kym. L. Worthy, Wayne County Prosecutor
Goal: Applaud harsh sentence for man who brutally stabbed and shot his mother’s dog.
A man will serve a lengthy sentence in prison after pleading guilty to killing his mother’s dog. The dog was brutally stabbed 21 times before it was shot in the head, though it is suspected that the dog was already dead before it was shot. This gruesome crime displayed a level of violence that shocked even veteran authorities.
The man, 22-year-old Anton D. Peterson, pleaded guilty to torturing an animal and felony use of a firearm. In exchange for his confession, the prosecutor dropped a lesser charge of cruelty to animals. Peterson is now facing a minimum of two years in prison for his crimes.
Peterson’s mother was originally reluctant to testify against him, but did so after working with Michigan Humane Society Cruelty Investigator Elise Ramsey. According to her, people who are excessively violent toward animals are likely to turn to violence against humans in the future. According to Ramsey, Peterson’s mother kept asking “what if he did this to someone else or something else?”
In a time where the perpetrators of animal cruelty often get off with a slap on the wrist, it is refreshing to see authorities taking violence against animals this seriously. This offender will no longer have the chance to harm any more animals. Sign the petition below to applaud this tough stance against animal cruelty.
Dear Ms. Worthy,
A man will face a minimum two year prison sentence after violently stabbing his mother’s dog 21 times and shooting it in the head in a gruesome scene that shocked even veteran investigators. Anton D. Peterson, a 22-year-old man, pleaded guilty to torturing an animal and felony use of a firearm. Animal welfare investigators feared that anyone capable of this level of violence against animals could be capable of escalating the violence toward humans.
All too often, we see animal cruelty crimes not taken seriously. By taking a tough stance against this crime, you are not only ensuring that the dog and its owner receives justice, but deterring future animal abusers from committing similar crimes. We, the undersigned, applaud you for ensuring that this violent offender is taken off the streets.
