Target: Mike Heath, leader of “Equal Right Not Special Rights”
Goal: End hateful mission to make homosexuality illegal by removing “sexual orientation” from the Human Rights Act.
A coalition of Christians has started a campaign to recriminalize homosexuality in Maine. Going by the name “Equal Rights Not Special Rights,” the group is determined to undermine the hard-fought freedoms that the LGBTQ community has spent decades earning.
Members of this movement claim that they are tired of “being forced” to accept homosexual lifestyles. The group’s primary goal is to remove “sexual orientation” from the Human Rights Act, which would strip essential protections and rights from the LGBTQ community. “[LGBTQ people] think they can force people to accept their worldview … and it’s not going to work,” said group leader Mike Heath.
In response to this fear of being forced to accept another lifestyle, these people have decided to force others to accept their own lifestyle. Numerous legal victories and overwhelming public support has proven that America fully supports equal rights, and this movement is a desperate attempt to cling to outdated and intolerant beliefs. Sign the petition below and urge the leader of this group to put an end to his hateful campaign.
Dear Mr. Heath,
I am writing to express my serious concern about your movement. In attempting to recriminalize homosexuality, you are in direct defiance of multiple legal decisions and the public opinion of the nation.
I respect your right to your own opinion, but you are obligated to respect differing opinions as well. You claim that the LGBTQ community wants to force people to accept their lifestyle, yet you are the one leading a campaign to force them to accept your lifestyle. This hypocrisy cannot be tolerated in a nation built on freedom, and I urge you to put an end to this hateful and intolerant campaign.
