Denounce Pundit for Threatening President Over Dallas Shooting

Anti-police brutality

Target: Conservative talk show host Joe Walsh

Goal: Denounce former congressman for posting a threatening tweet at Obama and citizens blaming them for the Dallas shooting.

A conservative talk show host said “real America is coming for you” in a tweet blaming President Obama and the Black Lives Matter movement for the sniper shooting in Dallas that killed five police officers. The tweet by former Representative Joe Walsh read “3 Dallas Cops killed, 7 wounded. This is now war. Watch out Obama. Watch out black lives matter punks. Real America is coming after you.” He deleted it not long after posting it.

This kind of violent rhetoric is completely unacceptable after a horrifically violent incident that ended in the deaths of five officers as they attempted to protect the participants of a peaceful rally about how lives matter. Issuing a thinly veiled threat against the President and a non-violent movement simply asking that something be done to prevent cops from killing black people over and over for no reason is perhaps even worse.

Walsh later posted that he wasn’t call for violence, but saying “this is now war” and saying people are coming for Obama is clearly a threat of violence. He also doubled down on blaming the President and the Black Lives Matter movement even though Dallas officials have stated that the shooters were not associated with the protesters.

Trying to stop the trend of cops killing black people and other people of color with impunity is not encouraging violence against police officers. Walsh is the one encouraging violence and he hasn’t apologized. Sign our petition to demand that he issues a real apology and retraction of his threatening statement.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Walsh,

Your recent Twitter post containing a thinly veiled threat against both President Obama and peaceful American citizens was completely inappropriate. It contained clearly violent language despite the fact that you claimed you weren’t encouraging violence after you deleted the tweet. You need to issue a real retraction and apology.

Rhetoric about “war” and people “coming for” others is absolutely violent and incredibly disrespectful when police officers and Black Lives Matter activists alike are trying to reduce violence. Dallas officials have already stated that the shooters are not affiliated with the Black Lives Matter protesters. You’re not only disrespecting the dead officers, you’re making their jobs more difficult.

Stop encouraging more violence. Apologize for your reprehensible tweet.

Sincerely,

That was very mean and dumb. After what happened in that shooting, this person shouldn’t have threatened our president and the people like this. That was totally unacceptable and we won’t take your bad nonsense. Gun violence is too dangerous and won’t be tolerated. Don’t give a bad statement again.
