Target: United States Senator David Vitter, Louisiana
Goal: Stop companies’ use of harmful aerosol cans to protect human health and the environment.
For years, the trend of huffing has been linked to aerosol spray cans; huffing chemicals from these cans has led to many illnesses, impairments and deaths due to reckless people (mostly adolescents) sniffing from these cans to get a quick high. Even people who do not sniff from the cans for kicks take in an alarming amount of chemicals when they eat food products packed in these cans or use them in their homes or on their bodies.
Air freshener, deodorant, certain food products, spray paint–all of these things come in aerosol cans. The chemicals from the cans contaminate food when they mix with it upon exiting the can and add to the chemicals already found in products such as hairspray and paint. This creates a serious danger to both the environment and the consumer.
It is time for companies to start seeking out these safer alternatives and putting them to use in place of dangerous and toxic aerosol. Sign this petition to demand aerosol cans be completely phased out.
Dear Senator Vitter,
Please implement a ban on the use of aerosol cans by companies. These highly pressurized cans are dangerous and outdated–their chemicals contaminate food products while reckless people use them for inhalants, leading to their deaths. This has been going on for far too long.
We need safer containers for products. Consumer health and well-being depend on this, and so does our environment. Please push for the phasing out of aerosol and the use of safer methods. There are enough alternatives that we should no longer need an outdated method of packing spray products.
