Target: Honorable Judge Kevin M. O’Connell, 227th Criminal District Court

Goal: Applaud 15 year prison sentence for man found guilty of beating puppy to death with metal rod.

A Texas man found guilty of beating a puppy to death has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, the harshest possible sentence under the law. The man, 55-year-old Gary Kennedy, was caught on camera beating an 8-month-old Shar-Pei named Briscoe with a piece of metal reinforcing bar from a construction site. He then put the body in a bag, dragged it away from the bloody scene, and disposed of it in a nearby garbage can.

Fortunately, authorities were tipped off to the crime when the ravaged body was discovered. They were able to identify Kennedy, who has several prior convictions for violent crimes, on footage taken from the construction site’s security cameras. He ended up pleading no contest to the charges against him. Because of his violent history, he was given the maximum sentence possible in order to keep him from hurting animals or humans again.

In a time where animal abusers often get off with a slap on the wrist, this decision is a refreshing change. This victory not only takes a violent offender off the streets, but sets a precedent for animal abuse in Texas. This harsh sentence will send a strong message that authorities do not take violent crimes against animals lightly, and could help deter potential animal abusers in the future. Sign the petition below to applaud this harsh sentence.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Your Honor,

A man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for beating an 8-month-old puppy to death with a metal rod. Gary Kennedy was caught on camera savagely killing the dog before loading its corpse into a bag and throwing it into a nearby garbage bin. Taken into consideration was the fact that Kennedy has several past convictions for violent crimes, which aided in the decision to hand down the maximum possible sentence for this cruel act.

This decision will take this dangerous offender off the streets, ensuring he cannot harm more humans or animals. It will also set a new precedent for the prosecution of violent crimes against animals. Furthermore, the harsh punishment could help deter potential animal abusers. We, the undersigned, applaud you for taking a tough stance against this senseless offender.

Sincerely,

By God, time they started doing that here in the UK, instead of the derisory sentences handed out here!

  2. They need to start pushing these kind of sentences all over the world!
Maybe if people actually started having to sit in prison for a good bit of time it would teach them all a lesson and put a end to all the violence and ignorance.

You are SO right , Sara Smith-it’s high time they did the same thing here in the UK. Trouble is that our prisons are like holiday camps so it’s hardly a punishment to spend time in one! Hopefully, this worthless bastard (Kennedy) will have the shit kicked out of him while he’s doing his 15 years and let’s hope he actually DOES every minute of his sentence and isn’t let out early , which is what would happen here….

  4. they will be waiting to use him as a bitch when it gets to prison now.

  5. Anne GRice says:

Thank you Judge for this sentence given to this despicable killer for the suffering this poor puppy endured to his death! I wish that more judges would do the same for all the other heinous crimes committed to innocent pets daily.
