Strike Down Oppressive and Restrictive Abortion Bill

Target: U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle

Goal: Prevent legislation that discourages providers from performing abortions.

A new law would place serious restrictions on abortion clinics, posing a direct threat to women’s rights. Several organizations, most prominently Planned Parenthood, have asked a federal judge to block this new law in Florida before it can be enacted. The measure is remarkable similar to legislative efforts in other states, such as Oklahoma, that have created legal battles. The U.S. Supreme Court just recently ruled that a similar Texas law was unconstitutional.

If enacted, the bill would prevent any organization that provides abortions from receiving state funds. In addition, doctors who perform abortions would be required to have admitting privileges at local hospitals or the clinic would need to have a patient transfer agreement.

These regulations would strongly discourage organizations and doctors from performing abortions, a right that is protected by several different legal mandates. Sign the petition below to urge this judge to uphold the law and protect women across the country.

Dear Mr. Hinkle,

I am writing in regards to the new anti-abortion bill that has recently gained momentum in Florida. If enacted, this measure would place a series of restrictive measures on doctors and organizations who perform abortions, making it harder for women to receive the medical care to which they are legally entitled.

Regardless of one’s beliefs on abortion, the practice is protected by the law and underhanded initiatives are not the way to enact meaningful change. This new bill discourages medical professionals from performing abortions and that is simply unacceptable, not to mention illegal. Please strike down this measure before it can become a law.
