Target: Anthony Kennedy, U.S. Supreme Court Justice
Goal: Praise the U.S. Supreme Court for rejecting Texas’s extreme restrictions on abortion access.
HB 2, the draconian anti-abortion law that would have closed down almost every abortion clinic left in the state of Texas, has been officially struck down by the Supreme Court of the United States. This is thanks in part to the work of millions of pro-women activists, including those here on ForceChange. This final decision is a huge victory for pro-choice and women’s rights activists everywhere and a massive relief for many women in Texas and beyond.
Not only does this decision make it so the state of Texas has to allow abortion clinics and other health centers that provide reproductive services to stay open, it effectively ends the hypocritical anti-choice tactic of forcing ridiculous standards onto clinics that couldn’t possibly afford to make the changes necessary. Anti-abortion activists have been attempting to claim that HB 2 was meant to protect women from unsafe abortions, completely ignoring the fact that a lack of abortion services leads directly to an increase in actual unsafe, illegal, “back alley” abortions that have killed thousands of women.
After a long battle, things are finally looking up for women and other people who can become pregnant who want to maintain control of their bodies. Sign our petition to thank the Supreme Court for upholding the right to bodily autonomy.
Dear Justice Kennedy,
The Supreme Court’s recent decision to strike down Texas’s draconian anti-abortion law, HB 2, is a huge victory for women across the U.S. You’ve remained impartial in upholding the intent of the Roe v. Wade decision and clearly saw through the dishonest and hypocritical claim that Texas was protecting women by trying to close down almost every abortion clinic in the state.
The right to decide what to do with one’s body is fundamental to our society and any society that values human rights. In no other situation is a person denied their right to control their body because another living being is depending on it to live. It’s completely misogynistic to expect women to sacrifice themselves for an unborn fetus or embryo.
You’ve set back the un-democratic attempts to remove any meaning of effectiveness to Roe v. Wade and actually protected the health of millions of women. Thank you for standing up for them.
