Target: Carey Harveycutter, General Manager of Salem Fair
Goal: Cancel plans to host sea lion show due to alleged animal welfare violations.
Sea Lion Splash is a traveling sea lion show that is accused of neglecting its animals and showing no respect for the communities it travels to. The Salem Fair in Virginia is planning on hosting the show despite these atrocities.
Sea Lion Splash has reportedly violated the Animal Welfare Act numerous times and has racked up quite a few citations, including another six just last month. These violations include but are not limited to not providing adequate veterinary care, not setting up sufficient barriers between the animals and the public, and for not continuing to test the sea lions for leptospirosis despite the fact that two of the animals tested positive for possible infection. The disease is highly transferable to humans and this puts the animals and people in danger.
Sign this petition and demand the Salem Fair cancel its plans with Sea Lion Splash. These animals belong in the wild where they can swim in open water and play with friends, not in cages waiting to put on shows for humans.
Dear Mr. Harveycutter,
The Salem Fair will be starting up soon and the traveling sea lion show, Sea Lion Splash, will be in attendance. This is unfortunate due to the fact that this company neglects its animals and shows no responsibility for the safety of its animals and the communities it travels to.
Sea Lion Splash has violated the Animal Welfare Act on numerous occasions and has a long list of citations, including six that occurred just last month. These violations include not providing proper barriers between the animals and the public, for not providing adequate veterinary care to its animals, and for not continuing to test its animals for leptospirosis, a disease highly transferable to humans, despite the fact two of its sea lions tested positive for possible infection.
