Justice for Dog Found Dead With Muzzle Taped Shut

duct taped dog via Orangeburg County Animal Control

Target: Leroy Ravenell, Orangeburg County Sheriff

Goal: Immediately apprehend person responsible for taping a dog’s muzzle shut and leaving it to starve to death.

A dog was recently found dead in a ditch with its muzzle taped shut. The dog, a black lab mix, was found near a deserted stretch of rural road by two people riding ATVs. According to the horrified couple, the dog was extremely emaciated, its bones visible under its skin as if it had been starved. According to Director of Animal Control Les Porter, this is one of the worst cases of cruelty he has ever seen.

Authorities who removed the tape say that it was wound very tightly, 15 or more times around, in a deliberate act of malice. They determined that the dog’s mouth was taped while it was still alive, and that the dog was likely deserted in the area in the height of the summer heat. Veterinarians confirm that the dog likely starved to death, experiencing great distress in the process.

So far, police are working to retrieve forensic evidence from the duct tape and have asked the public to come forward with any information they may have. The Humane Society of the United States is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the identification and arrest of anyone involved in the crime.

This act of cruelty shocked the entire community. In order to protect both animals and humans from further violence, it is imperative that the person responsible is apprehended immediately. Sign the petition below to ask local police to dedicate extra resources to this case in order to quickly apprehend and lay charges against the person responsible.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Sheriff Revenell,

A black lab mix was recently found dead with its muzzle taped tightly shut. The dog was found by a couple who had been riding ATV’s in a deserted rural area. Veterinarians suspect that the dog’s mouth was taped while it was alive, and it was abandoned and made to wander in the summer heat until it finally died.

This act shows deliberate malice toward an innocent animal, and the person responsible must be apprehended before any more harm can be caused. We, the undersigned, ask that you allocate extra resources to this case in the interest of quickly finding and bringing charges against the person responsible for this shocking crime.

Sincerely,
