Protect the Tri-Colored Bat

Target: Michael Bauer, Chief Financial Officer of the World Wildlife Fund

Goal: Provide funding and resources to protect the endangered tri-colored bat.

The bat population as a whole has drastically declined in the past ten years, but the tri-colored bats are in especially grave trouble. White-nose syndrome, a fungal disease that affects all bats, is wiping out the tri-colored species at an alarming rate. The deadly fungus has reached 31 of 36 states in the species’ range, and at this rate it may not be too long before it reaches those last five states.

It’s said that this species has been mostly forgotten in comparison to other bats in danger, which is a travesty because these bats are more than just an innocent species in need of rescuing. They provide vital services in protecting crops from pest damage, and humans from insect-borne diseases. Animals that can provide such services to us are invaluable to us and to nature, we cannot let them die out and put us at risk of more diseases and the loss of our crops.

Protection for this species of bat needs immediate funding. Steps must be taken to preserve their health and habitat, for both the sake of the species and ourselves. We need to look into curing and preventing white-nose disease, as well as ensure a safe environment for them to live in. Right now this species is only under consideration for protection, but that’s not enough. They need assistance and care as soon as possible.

Sign this petition urging the World Wildlife Fund to provide funding and resources to save this species.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Bauer,

The tri-colored bat is severely endangered and needs protection. Too many of these bats have died out from a fungal disease, and without the means to prevent it we will lose even more of them. Bats as a whole need our help, but this species is in immediate danger and needs protection fast.

This species is beneficial to humanity as well as our agriculture. Bats protect us from various diseases and our crops from pests, a service invaluable to this planet. You have always been trusted to take good care of endangered species, so please work to provide adequate funding for the care and preservation of the tri-colored bats. A species that can provide such helpful and invaluable services to us and our crops deserves to live.

Sincerely,
