Target: Tim Swadley, President of the Stoughton City Council
Goal: Praise council for forcing the cancelation of cruel and archaic pig wrestling event at fair.
A brutal pig wrestling event where pigs are chased around a small mud pit and stuffed into barrels has thankfully been canceled. Thanks to strong opposition from the public and the ForceChange community, an annual fair in Stoughton, Wisconsin, will not feature pig wrestling this year. This laudable decision was made by Stoughton’s City Council, members of which reportedly stated “What are we teaching our kids?” and “I don’t feel it is right to watch animals running around scared and laughed at.”
Indeed, pursuing and manhandling a terrified animal in the name of entertainment is incredibly cruel and archaic and sends the harmful message to children that it is acceptable to abuse animals for fun. The move to cancel the event proves that the general mindset is changing and that decision-makers are increasingly aware that animals are sentient creatures, deserving of our protection and respect.
Sign this petition applauding the Stoughton City Council’s decision to cancel this cruel event, a move that will not only spare pigs but also go a long way in changing the community’s perception of animals.
Dear Mr. Swadley,
Thank you for making the progressive decision to force the cancelation of the Stoughton Fair’s cruel pig wrestling event. This move will protect pigs from the pain and fear of being chased, tackled and dragged through a muddy pit.
This decision also sends the beneficial message that animals are not ours to use and abuse for entertainment. Instead, they are sentient creatures worthy of our compassion and respect. Moreover, children attending the fair will be spared the pig wrestling event’s shocking brutality.
We applaud this forward-thinking decision, which will spare animals and help change mindsets for the better.
