Target: Pastor Roger Jimenez, Verity Baptist Church
Goal: Shame on you for applauding the murders at a gay nightclub in Orlando and wishing that more people died.
Just a few hours after dozens of innocent victims were shot at a nightclub in Orlando, Florida, a local pastor in Sacramento, CA delivered a sermon heaping praise on the shooter for his evil actions. Pastor Roger Jimenez delivered a sermon in which he applauded the horrific shooting, claiming that the murder of homosexuals would make society safer.
“Are you sad that 50 pedophiles were killed today? No … I think that’s great. I think that helps society,” said Jimenez in his remarks, making a shocking and blatant error by mistakenly equating gay people with pedophiles. Later in his sermon he added, “the tragedy is that more of them didn’t die.”
Regardless of sexual orientation, the victims of the Orlando shooting were human beings who deserve love and respect. For a “man of God” to deem them as pedophiles and cheer their murder while the paramedics were still responding to the scene is ignorant, inhumane and hateful. Dear Mr. Jimenez,
I am writing to express my shock and disgust at your recent sermon, during which you applauded the murder of 49 people because they were homosexuals. Your decision to cheer the senseless killing of dozens of people is cruel, vile, and offensive.
The LGBTQ population has long been subject to violence and persecution, in great part because of attitudes like yours. You hold the same belief system as the disgusting terrorist who fired the bullets. Shame on you for your insensitive, offensive and thoroughly ignorant comments.
