Target: Walter E. Whitcomb, Commissioner of the Maine Department of Agriculture
Goal: Urgently and permanently close massive egg farm where chickens allegedly suffer cruel and unsanitary conditions.
A massive egg farm has come under fire again after yet another undercover investigation revealed horrible living conditions for the chickens. The Humane Society has released over 30 minutes of footage showing millions of chickens crammed into filthy and crowded cages at Hillandale Farms, an egg-producing factory facility in Maine.
The graphic video shows chickens laying eggs on top of the mummified corpses of their cage-mates, in overcrowded cages where they can hardly turn around. Other chickens are seen painfully trapped by their wings, necks or legs in the wires of their cages, leaving them unable to reach food or water. Last year, footage showing similar cruelty had been dismissed as an “isolated incident.” It is now clear that these chickens are routinely mistreated in this facility and it must therefore be permanently closed.
Sign this petition urging authorities to take action against this farm’s owners and ban them from breeding and keeping animals due to welfare and public safety concerns.
Dear Mr. Whitcomb,
We urge you to urgently investigate and permanently shut down the Hillandale Farms egg-producing facility in Turner, Maine. Yet another investigation has found chickens living in horrific conditions. Footage obtained from the Humane Society shows hens laying eggs on top of dead and mummified chickens, crammed into cages too small to even turn around in.
This comes hot on the heels of other reports of cruelty against chickens at Hillandale Farms. Clearly this facility is routinely abusing animals for profit. Please ensure it is shut down so that millions of chickens are spared this horrific suffering.
