Target: U.S. President Barack Obama
Goal: Applaud deal projected to create a million new homes powered entirely by solar energy.
One million homes are projected to be able to get all of their energy from the sun thanks to a deal struck by President Obama with India. Because his efforts to solidify the Paris Agreement before he leaves office, the country of India has agreed to develop a “low greenhouse gas emissions development strategy.” This is the first signal from the Indian government that it intends to commit to global emissions reduction and clean energy sources.
The $20 million agreement will help to build these million homes by 2020 and invest in renewable energy infrastructure for poor, rural areas that are not yet connected to the power grid. Not only will this protect the global climate and help the poor, it’s expected to generate $1 billion for the economy through these clean energy projects.
Many poorer nations are struggling to commit to the Paris Agreement due to the fact that it takes money to build renewable energy infrastructure that will make a long term positive impact on emissions. The actions of the Obama administration have made this possible for one of the most highly populated nations in the world. Thank President Obama for using his last months in office to help disadvantaged countries do their part to combat climate change.
Dear President Obama,
Your recent agreement with the government of India is great news for the global environment and the fight against climate change. It also demonstrates your commitment to this battle as you dedicate your last months to reinforcing the Paris Agreement for the U.S. just in case a less environmentally friendly individual is elected to the office of President this November.
One of the biggest concerns about the Paris Agreement was the inability of poor nations like India to dedicate the funds necessary to create renewable energy infrastructure. Giving the nation of India $20 million to get started and feed its economy is exactly the kind of action needed to allow all countries–particularly ones as populated as India–the boost they need to do their part.
Thank you for building your legacy on the cause of fighting combat change and protecting the entire human race from its devastating effects. We applaud you for your efforts to help the poor communities of India, boost the nation’s economy, and reduce emission levels.
