Target: Rita B. Garman, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Illinois
Goal: Shut down exotic animal shelter where countless creatures allegedly died in inhumane conditions and send surviving animals to suitable sanctuaries.
Employees and volunteers of a well-known animal shelter report that some of the animals are malnourished, kept in inhumane conditions and left to die. Settlers Pond, an animal shelter for exotic species in the Chicago area has come under fire for allegedly neglecting animals until they died. At least a dozen people, including employees, volunteers, visitors and animal control officers have raised concern over animal mistreatment at the shelter.
Animals were reportedly found underweight, with donkeys desperately needing their hooves trimmed. The shelter’s owner, Airocolina Janota, who refered to animals as “something” in a media report, was also found allegedly dressing up monkeys in baby clothing and taking pictures of them in highchairs and on leash.
These allegations raise strong concerns over the fate and treatment of animals who end up in this shelter. Sign this petition urging authorities to shut down this improper facility and relocate all animals to accredited sanctuaries.
Dear Justice Garman,
Please urgently investigate severe allegations of cruelty and neglect at the Settlers Pond exotic animal shelter. Employees, volunteers and animal control officers report animals being kept in inhumane conditions, neglected, malnourished and left to die.
Reports and investigations raise serious concerns for the surviving animals still being kept at Settlers Pond. Please ensure that this inhumane facility is shut down, that animals are sent to accredited sanctuaries for proper care, and that if found guilty, the shelter’s owner is banned from owning animals for life.
