Don’t Let Thousands of Animals Die in Classroom Dissections

Lab-rat-by-Janet-Stephens

Target: Professor Ved Prakash, Chairman of the University Grants Commission

Goal: Don’t lift vital and progressive ban on dissecting animals in universities.

A committee meant to regulate experiments on animals is requesting that the university ban on animal dissection is lifted, despite the numerous unnecessary deaths this move would cause. Back in 2014, the University Grants Commission, which coordinates university education in India, took the humane and forward-thinking decision of banning animal dissection in undergraduate and postgraduate courses, promoting the use of far more efficient digital alternatives instead.

However, the Environment Ministry’s committee in charge of animal welfare in experimentation is paradoxically pushing for the ban to be lifted. It has written to the University Grants Commission requesting that the use of animals be encouraged in university curriculums. Experts have slammed the request, criticizing the perplexing fact that “the body constituted to replace animal testing is promoting it” and “leading us back to the stone age.”

Lifting the ban on dissection would lead to thousands of sentient creatures being needlessly killed to be cut open. Sign this petition urging the University Grants Commission to dismiss this archaic request and continue to make progressive moves for animals and science.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Professor Prakash,

Back in 2014 your commission took the humane and progressive decision to ban animal experimentation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. This kind and enlightened move has saved countless animal lives and helped teach students that animals are sentient creatures that do not exist merely to serve our needs.

The Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments on Animals (CPCSEA) is now requesting that the ban on experimentation is lifted. We urge you to ignore this archaic demand and continue to take forward-thinking decisions to protect animals and promote humane scientific learning.

Sincerely,

Using animals for classroom dissection also sends THE wrong message about animals, namely, animals are useful objects for humans do with as they please – that’s a horrible education experience!

  2. Classroom dissection is ignorant and absolutely serves no purpose. I watched a video with students jump roping with intestines, now that’s education, what a joke! Leave the animals alone.

  3. end all dissection of great animals today.

  4. Nick P.,you hit the nail on the head! Animals were not put on this earth for man to perpetuate science experiments on them! Animals are God’s creatures and He entrusts us with their care and welfare.

Do these people know this is unnecessary and it only teaches
pain and cruelty. Please leave the animals in peace.

  6. Did you throwbacks from this committee recently happen to fall into a vat of Neanderthal juice??!! “Progressive” you ain’t, but “vicious” you ARE!

  7. Tina shurtleff says:

Animal testing has been proven useless in most medical research. This is all about grant money. Any school that allows this is not a progressive institution.

    NO EXCUSE FOR ANIMAL ABUSE!!!?
