Target: Richard Branson, Founder of the Richard Branson Koala Conservancy
Goal: Applaud efforts to protect and preserve koala population.
Sir Richard Branson is reportedly using his fortune to provide help to koalas. The newly-created Richard Branson Koala Conservancy, dedicated to providing a protected habitat for these increasingly threatened animals, will find a home on Makepeace Island. This island, owned by Branson, was formerly used as an expensive luxury resort. Now, koalas will visit the island for rehabilitation after suffering injuries, experiencing negative human impacts, or surviving other situations requiring rehabilitation to the wild.
In addition to providing a wildlife refuge, Branson hopes that the island will find additional use as a scientific research hub. Forming partnerships with local universities, ecologists, and research specialists eager to work for koala conservation, the conservancy plans to provide support for scientific inquiry contributing directly to regional koala conservation. As a supportive sanctuary for both koalas and the scientists who study them, the conservancy seems set to instigate widespread positive change in the region for these imperiled animals.
Koalas are currently under overwhelming duress from multiple sources, suffering from myriad problems such as habitat loss, car-related accidents, disease, and feral predators, among other threats. After the recent spate of bad news concerning the plight of the koala, it is heartening to see that a celebrity is choosing to leverage their wealth to help these animals in such desperate need. Thank Sir Richard Branson and the Richard Branson Koala Conservancy for stepping up to make the world a better place for koalas.
Dear Sir Richard Branson,
Thanks to the Richard Branson Koala Conservancy, koalas will now enjoy a much-needed safe haven at Makepeace Island. These precious animals are in dire need of help, being under threat of disease, habitat loss, car-related accidents, feral predators, and other potentially devastating impacts. It is more important now than ever that people like you step up to create positive, lasting change for this imperiled species.
Thank you for stepping up and taking action toward repairing the damage done to this species by development. Furthermore, we appreciate that the conservancy is working with other conservation and community groups to provide additional support and protections for these increasingly imperiled animals. We, the undersigned, would like to commend you for leveraging your status to make the world safer for koalas.
