Warn Public Not to Buy Wild-Caught “Dory” Fish

Blue Tang Monterey Bay Aquarium

Target: Bob Iger, CEO of Disney

Goal: Have Disney place a warning during Finding Dory to not purchase blue tang “Dory” fish.

Despite the film’s anti-captivity message, the release of the movie Finding Nemo caused a spike in the sale of clownfish. A similar trend is expected after the release of the sequel, Finding Dory. This time it will be the blue tang fish in demand, better known as the “Dory” fish.

Pet stores were able to keep up with the clownfish demand because clownfish can be bred in captivity. The blue tang cannot be bred in captivity. This means that the only way to keep up with demand will be to take blue tang from the oceans and deplete the population.

This is a potentially dangerous situation for our oceans. It is important to keep equilibrium in nature and to disturb it as little as possible. Sign this petition and ask Disney to warn fans about the unfortunate consequences of buying blue tang fish.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Iger,

One of this year’s most anticipated films is your very own Finding Dory. After the release of Finding Nemo, clownfish sales spiked, and a similar trend is expected after the release of Finding Dory. Blue tang fish, the same species as Dory, are expected to be in high demand after the release of the movie.

Stores were able to keep up with the clownfish demand back in the early 2000s because clownfish can be bred in captivity. Blue tang fish cannot be bred in captivity which means that in order to meet the demand, countless blue tang will be taken from their homes and families to be put in a tank. This transition is very stressful and can even lead to the fish’s death.

Please consider putting a warning at the beginning of Finding Dory to warn the public of the dangers of buying blue tang fish. It is important to educate the public on this issue and to conserve our earth’s natural wonder.

Sincerely,

  1. VERY IMPORTANT FACT PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW – TOO BAD YOU CAN’T GET CNN OR FOX NEWS OR EVEN DISNEY TO DO A PRESS RELEASE ABOUT THE DAMAGE PEOPLE WOULD BE DOING TO BRING THEM HOME TO THEIR OWN TANKS. PETA MIGHT BE A GOOD PLACE TO START.

  2. Nobody ought to be imprisoning fish in the first place, no matter WHAT species they are! Secondly, the more scientists are researching fish in general, the more they’re finding many of the SAME inherent traits in them as are a part of humans, i.e. they exhibit EMOTIONS. Get with the times already! If YOU wouldn’t want your own life limited by a prison, or being controlled by some other random species, it stands to reason other FEELING, SENTIENT species don’t like it, either!

  3. Do a little research on PETA please…they exist simply to take your money. Check the peta employees charged with dumping dead animals in a public waste bin in Virginia. Never, but NEVER give them a single penny.
