Target: Barack Obama, President of the United States
Goal: Expand healthcare to include coverage for undocumented children, one of the most vulnerable populations in the U.S.
A new health care expansion in California will allow more than 170,000 undocumented children in low-income families to enroll in state-funded health insurance plans. It’s time that the rest of the country steps up to do the same to ensure some of the most vulnerable populations in the U.S. are not left without health care.
The initiative gives undocumented children all benefits under California’s version of Medicaid, including preventive and primary care, dental, and mental health treatment. Many undocumented children across the country have practically no health care options except emergency-only services.
By extending this coverage to undocumented children, the government can save money in annual emergency room bills as well as billions of dollars in lost productivity. Spreading initiatives like this across the country just makes sense. Urge President Obama to expand health care coverage to undocumented children.
Dear President Obama,
California recently expanded its health care under Medi-Cal to undocumented children who otherwise would be left with emergency-only medical services. Thanks to this initiative, these children, who are already a vulnerable population, will get the medical attention they need and deserve rather than learning to live with medical problems.
Other states have passed similar expansions, and it’s time the rest of the country does the same. I urge you to expand health care coverage to undocumented children across the country.
