Target: Robert A. McDonald, Secretary U.S. Veterans Affairs
Goal: Investigate allegations that younger veterans are denied access to state-operated veteran housing.
Younger veterans may be inappropriately denied housing based on a recent study by the Veterans National Recovery Center. The study calls the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown a “nursing home for the elderly.” The home, however, was set up to provide housing for injured veterans of any age who are having trouble coping.
Not only is it wrong to deny housing for veterans who need it, the apparent discrimination may also violate the Age Discrimination Act. Demand these claims are investigated and the problem corrected to ensure veterans of all ages are given access to appropriate housing.
Dear Secretary McDonald,
Veterans in Iowa and across the nation need your help. A recent study of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown found a disproportionate number of elderly veterans living there while younger veterans who also need the housing were denied access. According to the Veterans National Recovery Center, which conducted the study, the home was set up to help injured veterans of all ages and failing to do so may violate the Age Discrimination Act.
We demand these claims are investigated and any violations are corrected to ensure veterans of all ages have access to appropriate housing.
