Target: Gina McCarthy, Administrator for the United States Environmental Protection Agency
Goal: Address massive population loss of America’s honey bees.
Beekeepers in the United States reported the loss of 44 percent of their honey bee colonies during a one-year stretch from April 2015 to April 2016, marking a potentially catastrophic trend that could result in the extinction of the species. The troubling news comes from an annual nationwide survey, which reported a similar pattern in the previous year’s survey.
The plight of America’s bees has become a talking point in American politics (as seen in this ForceChange petition) but neither lawmakers nor environmentalists have been able to make any significant progress in their efforts to restore the population of this valuable animal.
What was once a concerning prediction has become a fact–honey bees are disappearing at a disastrous rate, and unless meaningful measures are enacted immediately, this precious species will go extinct. Sign the petition below to ensure that these precious creatures get the protection they deserve.
Dear Mrs. McCarthy,
I am writing to call your attention to an extremely troubling situation. A recent annual survey has revealed that honey bees across the nation are dying at a catastrophic rate, as honey bee keepers reported the loss of 44 percent of their colonies during a one-year stretch from April 2015 to April 2016. This loss continues troubling figures from the 2014-15 survey, and unless something is done, these animals will go extinct.
The plight of America’s bees has become a national talking point, which is very encouraging, but our country has reached the point where talking is not enough. Deforestation, pollution, and disease are wiping these animals out, and they need help immediately. Please increase efforts to protect these animals, or else they will be lost forever.
