Target: Elizabeth Glazer, Director of Criminal Justice
Goal: Punish five boys who set a Jewish school bus on fire in an alleged hate crime.
Five boys set a school bus on fire, allegedly because it belonged to a Jewish organization. A video shows the children running into the bus with flaming cardboard. Take a stand against hate crimes and demand that appropriate punishment be taken for these children.
The boys, ranging in age from 10 to 15, fled the bus after flames appeared. Though no one was injured in the blaze, the bus itself was destroyed along with prayer books. This is the neighborhood’s third anti-Semitic incident in the last four days. In a previous incident, a 13-year-old boy punched a Jewish man after repeatedly pelting him with rubber bands.
There have been 110 hate crimes in New York this year, and 46 of them targeted Jews. A precedent must be set in order to protect the Jewish population. Demand that these boys are served with the harshest punishment if found guilty for this crime.
Dear Director Glazer,
Five boys set a Jewish school bus on fire. The alleged hate crime took place on the heels of several anti-Semitic incidents in the same neighborhood. We demand that you set a precedent with this crime and punish the children responsible.
Video evidence shows the boys running onto the bus with flaming cardboard. Flames appear moments later. No one was injured, but the bus itself was destroyed along with Jewish prayer books.
It is shocking that five children could have perpetrated a hate crime. However, consequences are essential in preventing further anti-Semitic attacks. We demand that you harshly punish these children and take a stand against hate crimes.
