Target: Maura Healey, Attorney General of Massachusetts
Goal: Fire cops for allegedly using excessive force on a suspect after he surrendered.
Police officers reportedly beat a suspect after he surrendered following a high speed chase that spanned two states. Helicopter footage shows Richard Simone Jr. slowly exit his truck and kneel on all fours, before being swarmed by police and severely beaten. He’s now in need of medical treatment, and although the extent of his injuries haven’t been released, reports say he had blood in his ears.
The officers had no reason to behave violently if the suspect had already surrendered and was on the ground. The extent of their excessive force was apparently terrible enough to garner a response from the governor, who called the footage incredibly disturbing. Sign this petition to ensure that the officers are fired if the investigation finds that they used unnecessary, excessive force.
Dear Ms. Healey,
Police reportedly chased a suspect down and beat him after he surrendered, prompting officials to call the behavior “disturbing.” The suspect, according to helicopter footage, was on all fours when police began punching him.
Violent behavior and excessive force should not be tolerated within law enforcement, whose duty is to protect and serve. We urge you to ensure the officers are fired if guilty of excessive force.
