Stop Supporting Animal Abuse With Biased Reporting

Target: Ron Waksman, Senior Director of Global News Canada

Goal: Ensure accuracy and transparency by also reporting the cruelty involved in fur production, rather than repeatedly pinning activists as “extremists.”

A news publication has chosen to report the liberation of hundreds of minks from a fur farm in an extremely biased manner. Two articles by Global News Canada describing the liberation of 500 minks from a fur farm in Ontario refer to activists as vandals and present an entirely industry-led view of events. Rather than reporting the story fairly, the publication solely gives voice to various members of the fur industry and fails to mention the horrors endured by animals in fur farms. Fur production involves the torture and murder of sentient beings, often confined to filthy wire cages their entire lives before being gassed, electrocuted or clubbed to death.

Both articles repeatedly quote the term “animal extremists,” only cite spokespeople from the fur industry, and focus on the baby mink that might die as a result of the liberation. This is absurd given that the industry was planning to slaughter all the animals anyway to profit from their dead skins.

Sign this petition asking Global News Canada to report issues relating to animal abuse fairly and objectively, as it is their responsibility as a media publication.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mr. Waksman,

Global News Canada has published two articles about the liberation of 500 minks from a fur farm in Ontario, yet both present a biased and industry-focused perspective on the event. Rather than report the matter fairly and objectively, as is the media’s duty, your publication only quotes members of the fur industry and fails to mention the suffering endured by animals raised and killed in these farms.

Please redress the balance by interviewing members of animal welfare organizations on this topic, amending published pieces to include information on the treatment of animals by the fur industry, and ensure that future reporting on animal abuse is presented accurately and without bias.

Sincerely,

obviously the “reporter” has no heart or soul and should allow an actual human being to research and write the story.

  2. end all cruel fur farms now.
