Target: Fuad Masum, President of Iraq
Goal: Demand fair trials and humane living conditions for prisoners held in a detention center without charge.
Over 1,000 prisoners are being detained in inhumane and degrading conditions without formal charges. The prisoners have been held for months awaiting trials that may never come. Take a stand for human rights and demand fair trials for these prisoners.
Prisoners are forced to live in a small space, sit in a crouched position day and night, and are not allowed fresh air. They have been arrested as “terrorist suspects,” but have not received formal charges. Many are believed to be innocent, swept up in the shuffle during liberation. The center, run by Iraqi anti-terrorist forces, has only four investigators. This makes it nearly impossible for justice to be served in a timely manner.
Innocent or not, these prisoners deserve to be detained in conditions conducive to physical and emotional health. Sign below and take a stand for human rights.
Dear President Masum,
Over 1,000 prisoners are being detained in inhumane conditions without formal charge. The men, labeled as “terrorist suspects,” have been detained for months in an overcrowded facility. We demand justice for these prisoners.
They are forced to sit in a crouched position day and night and occupy a space barely large enough to fit them. They are unable to stretch or lie down and are not allowed fresh air. Many are believed to be innocent.
Anti-terrorist forces cannot keep up with the investigations. Therefore, these prisoners go months without a fair trial. We demand that the prisoners be detained in a larger, more humane facility and that they be either formally charged or released.
