Target: Jeffrey Hickman, Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives
Goal: Classify forced oral sex on an unconscious person as rape, making it illegal and punishable by law.
It’s not illegal to force someone into having oral sex if the person is unconscious according to a recent ruling by an Oklahoma criminal appeals court based on the state’s laws. This is disgusting, unjust, and must be changed.
The court was ruling on a case of a 17-year-old boy who was charged with forced oral sodomy for having oral sex with a 16-year-old girl while she was unconscious from drinking. DNA evidence confirmed the act occurred, but according to the court it wasn’t considered rape because there’s no mention of “unconsciousness” or “intoxication” in the state’s legal definition of a forcible oral sodomy crime. However, both words are mentioned in the state’s rape law.
This girl was traumatized and her perpetrator will get away with it because Oklahoma lawmakers haven’t stepped up to protect its people from sexual assault. Urge officials to enact a law making forced oral sex illegal when someone is unconscious.
Dear Speaker Hickman,
A 17-year-old boy who was charged with forced oral sodomy for having oral sex with a 16-year-old girl while she was unconscious from drinking. The boy will face no consequences for his sickening actions because there are no laws in place to protect people in Oklahoma from heinous crimes such as this.
It’s your job as a lawmaker to ensure cases like this end in consequence upheld by law. I demand you enact a law making forced oral sex while someone is unconscious a crime.
