Target: E. Brian Connor, Potentate of Melha Shriners
Goal: Thank the Melha Shrine Circus for dropping all animal acts from its show.
The Melha Shrine Circus recently announced that it will be showing an animal-free circus this year. This is great news for animals.
Animals used in the entertainment industry, specifically circuses, are typically held in small cages with little to no access to the outside and are severely neglected. In addition, many circuses’ training techniques are that of abuse. Bullhooks and electric prods are commonly used on elephants and whips are a familiar sight to large circus cats.
Circuses force wild animals to perform unnatural tricks in front of large jeering crowds. It is inherently cruel to continue forcing animals to do this. Hopefully, more circuses follow in the footsteps of Melha Shrine. Sign this petition and thank them for putting together a fun, compassionate show.
Dear Mr. Connor,
Recently, your organization announced that it will be having an animal-free circus this year. This is great news to hear.
As you know, animals used in circuses are typically abused, neglected, and held in small cages for unbearably long periods of time. It is cruel to force wild animals to perform unnatural tricks in front of large, jeering crowds.
Thank you for deciding to put together an animal-free circus. This shows people that you can have a compassionate circus and still have plenty of entertainment and fun. I hope more circuses decide to follow in your footsteps.
