Fire Racist, Misogynistic Sheriff’s Chief of Staff

Target: Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell

Goal: Fire police chief of staff who sent emails making racist comments about black people, Latinos and Muslims and sexist comments about women.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department chief of staff forwarded emails with jokes containing racist and sexist comments about black people, Muslims, Latinos, women and others from his work email at his previous job with the Burbank Police Department, according to public city records.

Chief of staff Tom Angel was the second highest ranking police official at his former job with the Burbank Police Department when he sent these sickening, bigoted emails. In this number two position, he was supposed to be assisting in reforming the department amid scandals involving sexual harassment, police brutality and sexual assault.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Jim McDonnell chalked the emails up to bad humor and said that he had no immediate plans to discipline this blatantly racist and sexist member of his staff. McDonnell is a failure of a leader and should not have his own job if he sees no reason to fire Angel. Demand McDonnell fire Tom Angel for his disgusting bigotry.

Dear Sheriff McDonnell,

Your chief of staff, Tom Angel, sent emails at a previous job that made sickening racist jokes about minorities as well as sexist comments about women. Rather than stand up against this bigotry and remove this awful man from your staff, you brushed it off as a shame that requires no discipline or action.

You should be ashamed of yourself. By having Tom Angel on your staff, you are supporting his behavior. I demand you fire this racist, sexist man immediately for his actions.
