Target: Mike Pence, Governor of Indiana
Goal: Strictly enforce laws against littering on a historic site.
Plastic bottles, paper bags, and cigarette butts pile up on the curbs of Johnson Street in the historic district of Terre Haute in Indiana. The trash diminishes this place’s once majestic beauty. This historic site has become prime dumping ground for trash and unwanted goods. Demand that harsher punishments for littering are enforced. We must act now take a stand for the environment.
Terre Haute was once known for its natural beauty and historic sites. Now, it contains bags full of discarded trash, fast food containers, and even old mattresses. It is its own citizens who are responsible for this pollution. A study conducted by Keep America Beautiful showed that a startling 81 percent of littering is done intentionally. Without proper enforcement of laws and stricter penalties, the cycle of pollution will never end.
Take a stand for the environment and the local wildlife. Sign below and demand that a harsher penalty is given for littering in Terre Haute.
Dear Governor Pence,
Cleanup crews worked hard to clean the streets of Terre Haute. Full bags of garbage, fast food containers, and even mattresses pollute the environment and distract from the beauty of a historic site. Take a stand against pollution and increase the penalty for littering.
Litter begets more litter, according to Keep America Beautiful. When passersby see litter already on the ground, they assume that it is okay for them to add to the mess. This leads to creeks full of old mattresses and streets covered in miscellaneous trash.
We demand that you increase the penalties for littering at once. Let’s end the cycle of pollution today.
