Target: Director of Public Prosecutions for Northern Ireland, Barra McGrory
Goal: Sentence farmer who sent a suffering cow to the slaughterhouse more harshly than just giving him community service.
A farmer guilty of sending a sick and suffering cow on the long journey to the slaughterhouse has only been sentenced to community service. The farmer, Joseph Donaghey from Northern Ireland, has pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and transporting a bovine animal that was not fit for the journey.
Despite causing tremendous suffering to this cow simply to profit from the animal’s sold meat, this man will only have to serve community service and will be allowed to carry on working with and keeping animals. Sign this petition demanding that this man be given a much harsher sentence, including a lifetime ban on keeping animals, as he clearly does not have their welfare at heart.
Dear Mr. McGrory,
Despite having sent a sick animal to suffer on a long journey to the slaughterhouse simply to profit from the cow’s sold meat, a farmer has been given a shockingly lenient sentence. Joseph Donaghey from Clogher, County Tyrone, pleaded guilty to one charge of causing unnecessary suffering to an animal and one charge of transporting a bovine animal that was not fit for the journey. Yet he was only sentenced to community service. This sends the harmful message that causing an animal to suffer is acceptable in the eyes of the law.
Letting this man continue to own and work with animals puts countless creatures at risk of suffering. I urge you to ensure this man is sentenced more harshly and banned from keeping animals for life.
