Target: President of the United States Barack Obama
Goal: Support legislative efforts to declassify documents about the terrorist attacks on September 11th.
The families of victims of the September 11th terrorists attacks are calling for the release of a classified congressional report which may contain possible links between Saudi Arabian officials and the 9/11 hijackers. Saudi Arabia–an important political ally–has threatened financial retaliation, claiming that it will sever ties with the U.S. if the bill requiring declassification becomes law. This is a brazen attempt at blackmail that must be addressed.
Saudi Arabia currently sits on hundreds of billions of dollars in U.S. assets, but such a figure is irrelevant. The American public, especially the families of victims, deserve to know the truth about the most devastating terrorist attacks on American soil. If Saudi Arabia played any role in these attacks, then they must be held accountable. Sign the petition below and urge President Obama to declassify this information and resist intimidation attempts from a foreign country.
Dear President Obama,
I am writing in regards to recent calls for the declassification of a congressional report that may highlight links between the September 11th hijackers and Saudi Arabian officials. The American public, especially the families of victims, deserve to know the truth about the most devastating terrorist attacks on American soil, and to deny them this right because of attempted blackmail is disrespectful to the memory of those who lost their lives in the attacks.
While I understand that Saudi Arabia has threatened financial retaliation, America cannot be blackmailed into withholding information. No matter how large the sum, money should not take precedence over the lives of citizens. I urge you to resist this attempted intimidation and support the legislation that would declassify the report.
