Target: Sheriff’s Captain Chad McInville, Darlington County Police Dept
Goal: Find and punish person responsible for taping a dog’s mouth and eyes shut before abandoning it.
A dog was recently found wandering around with tape around its muzzle and eyes. Police say that the tape was wound in several tight layers, suggesting that the person responsible intended for the dog to starve to death slowly. The abandoned dog, nicknamed Aurora by rescuers, was found to have an infected laceration on her paw as well as several different parasites, including hookworms, heartworms, and whipworms. According to rescuers, the four-year-old Great Dane was also emaciated.
The skittish dog was initially seen wandering down a residential road. Sheriff’s Captain Chad McInville was able to gain Aurora’s trust and convince her to approach him. After the tape was removed from her head and mouth, Aurora was transported to a nearby animal shelter. Fortunately, she was found after an estimated day of being taped up, and will suffer no long-lasting damage from the binding, though she will have to undergo a lengthy heartworm treatment.
The presence of multiple parasites paired with the dog’s emaciated stature suggest that it suffered ongoing neglect at the hands of its owner. Furthermore, the clearly deliberate attempt to kill the dog in such a torturous manner shows shocking malice. In order to ensure that this offender does not hurt any more animals or escalate their violence to humans, it is imperative that they are caught immediately. Sign the petition below to demand that additional resources are dedicated to the investigation of this horrific crime and that police seek to punish the person responsible to the fullest extent of the law.
Dear Sheriff’s Capt. McInville,
A dog was recently found abandoned with its mouth and eyes taped shut. The dog, now named Aurora, was emaciated and had an infected laceration on one of her paws. She was also infected with hookworms, heartworms, and whipworms.
Aurora, who was rescued and brought to an animal shelter, saw a marked improvement in her condition after only 24 hours, and is likely to recover fully. She will, however, require a long and costly heartworm treatment.
This crime is particularly shocking due to the clear malicious intent of the perpetrator. In order to keep both the citizens and animals of Darlington County safe, it is imperative that the person responsible is apprehended quickly. We, the undersigned, ask you to request extra resources until the case is solved and that you recommend the harshest possible legal ramifications for the perpetrator.
