Target: Thierry Braillard, French State Secretary for Sports
Goal: Ban the dangerous sport of horse racing which causes horse deaths and injuries to spectators.
A racing event recently saw a frightened horse crash into the rails and severely injure a family of spectators. The animal was likely trying to jump over the barrier to escape the race. The jockey and the spectators — a grandmother, her daughter and three young granddaughters — were all injured in the incident. The horse had to be put down due to the extent of its injuries.
Clearly, horse races are extremely unsafe for all participants, including jockeys and spectators. They are especially detrimental to the horses themselves, who are forced participants. These animals are whipped, drugged, and raced to exhaustion. They frequently sustain fatal injuries.
Sign this petition urging authorities to put an end to this cruel sport once and for all in order to protect people and horses from further accidents of this kind.
Dear Mr. Braillard,
A horse named Fin March recently crashed into a family of spectators at a racing event in Nantes. The jockey and family of five were severely harmed in the incident, not to mention the horse himself, who had to be put down due to the extent of his injuries. Whipped, stressed and over-trained, Fin March was likely attempting to jump over the barrier to escape the race when he crashed into the rails.
Racing entails horrible mistreatment of horses and severe danger for jockeys and spectators. We demand that this dangerous and cruel sport is banned to prevent such incidents from occurring.
